Abbeys

A taste of some of the more notable Priory's and Abbeys in the area within easy day trip distance of any of our cottages. You will notice that the majority of them are National Trust properties so don't forget your card or if you are not a member sign up whilst on holiday.

Castles

Yorkshire has a large number of castles. We have listed a selection which are easily reached. Helmsley castle is particularly intereresting with the three Warrior statues situated by the south barbican gatehouse. These are all English Heritage so its worth signing up whilst visiting your first castle.

Churches

There are some beautiful churches in the area its always worth a look in when you are visiting a local town or village, you will find many open and happy to accept visitors. Below is a selection of local churches that can easily be included in a day out from any of our cottages.

For Kids

A selection of attractions that are particularly good for families and within day trip distance of any of our cottages. Flamingoland and Lightwater Valley are two of the largest theme parks in the country. As well as the usual rides Flamingoland has a zoo and Lightwater Valley has a Bird of Prey centre so there is something for everyone.

There are some lovely gardens within day trip distance of any of our cottages. There are also many open gardens in the area throughout the Summer, watchout for the signs, some can be really fabulous.

Historic Houses

You must visit Castle Howard and gardens during your stay. Even if you don't want to go inside the house then the grounds are really special and you can even get lunch at the tearoom.

Museums

A selection of small local and larger national museums within day trip distance of any of our cottages. York is well blest with international standard museums the Railway and Castle Museums are fantastic and well worth a visit. At the local level both the the Ryedale Folk Museum and the Beck Isle are very good.

Natural Attractions

We are surrounded by beautiful countryside so its difficult to be very specific. To provide a bit of guidance we have put together a selection of some of the most beautiful places to visit within day trip distance of any of our cottages.

Visitor Attractions

This is a bit of a catch all section with a rather eclectic mix of offers, obviously the north Yorkshire steam railway is one of the most important attractions locally a fantastic day out and a great way to see the countryside. All the attractions are within day trip distance of any of our cottages.
