We are surrounded by beautiful countryside so its difficult to be very specific. To provide a bit of guidance we have put together a selection of some of the most beautiful places to visit within day trip distance of any of our cottages.
North Yorkshire Moors National Park
Magical moorland, delightful dales and spectacular coastline crowned with towering cliffs. Over 1,400 miles of paths and tracks to choose from this wonderful corner of North Yorkshire is overflowing with opportunities for walking, cycling and horse riding. The only potential problem is knowing where to begin!

Dinosaur Coast, Whitby/Scarborough
North and East Yorkshire have some of the best Jurassic and Cretaceous geology in the world. Erosion of the massive cliffs reveals an array of spectacular fossils. The deep valleys formed during the last Ice Age give many inland exposures and spectacular beauty spots. The wide range of fossils provides evidence for the changing environment of tropical seas, rivers and swamps in the region's ancient past.

Dalby Forest, Pickering
Dalby Forest is situated on the southern slopes of the North York Moors National Park. The southern part of the forest is divided by a number of valleys creating a 'Rigg and Dale' landscape whilst to the north the forest sits on the upland plateau. A 9-mile scenic drive with car parks, picnic places, way marked walks (up to 2 miles) including Habitat Trail, orienteering course. Guided walks available. Visitor centre in Low Dalby village, 1 mile along the drive from the Thornton Dale entrance.

Bridestones, Dalby Forest

Moorland nature reserve with peculiar rock formations.

The Moors Centre, North York Moors National Park, Danby
The Moors Centre is in the north of the Park, ¾ of a mile outside Danby in the Esk Valley (OS Grid Reference: NZ 717 084). In the summer months it's easy to get to The Moors Centre on the Moorsbus Network. Alternatively the Centre makes an excellent park and ride site so why not leave your car there and give it a go.

Wykeham Lakes, near Scarborough
Five lakes, fishing lodge with lounge, toilets and hot drinks. Car parking. Day, part-day and season tickets for fishing. Sailing and windsurfing, tuition available. Boat hire, scuba diving and canoeing. Two trout fishing lakes, 1 coarse fishing lake and a lake for water sports. Nature trails and bird-watching. Fishing for pike during winter.
